About

Twenty beneficiaries embarked on a six-month journey to build a career trajectory in creativity. The beneficiaries are based in Camden aged 14-18 from social housing estates and schools around Queens Crescent Camden (10% most-deprived LSOAs who have an established interest in the Arts & Media.

The Cultivating Careers in Creativity program covered five disciplines: Art, Performing Arts (Drama Theatre, Spoken Word, Music, Performance, Music Production), Fashion Design, and Sewing. There was also masterclasses provided in Photography, Film, Engineering, and Computer Science Architecture. Support was provided by mentors and professionals through weekly or bi-weekly mentoring sessions, workshops, and masterclasses.

The Impact and Gains of the Cultivating Careers in Creativity Program

Participants became more aware of professional opportunities in the creative industry. Specifically, they were able to explore individual career interests through creative mini-courses. They developed artistic, digital employability, and entrepreneurial skills. Furthermore, they gained access to meeting professionals, joined a network in various creative and engineering fields, and unlocked industry pathways.

Important skills were gained such as interview skills and confidence in writing CV’s and applications. This program was important as each participant now has material (portfolios, short films, etc.) to promote their chosen field. Furthermore, it provided a platform for self-expression, empowering young people to explore identities and develop confidence.

Key Activities of the Cultivating Careers in Creativity Program:

CV writing sessions were held every Friday, including professional advice from Steven Robertson on what employees expect and how to talk about practice. Interview practice was also provided.

A very special opportunity was also presented to our beneficiaries which involved a Q&A session at Camden Town Hall with the Mayor of Camden.

We would like to thank ‪@CamdenCouncil‬ ‪@LoveCamden‬ supporting our work with the funding on this project. We would also like to thank ‪@eddiehanson‬ The Mayor of Camden for hosting our Q&A session at Camden Town Hall and for his passion and support in our work at HvH ARTS.
