INTRODUCING THE HvH FASHION ACADEMY
We are very excited to launch the HvH Fashion Academy!
Each programme is bursting with highly educational and exciting fashion and textile activities that inspire and build knowledge of the fashion industry.
The Academy offers fee-paying courses, which directly support our charitable mission to provide free places for beneficiaries. This model ensures equal opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access high-quality creative education; a part of our core ethos.
What is the HvH Arts Fashion Academy?
The HvH Fashion Academy is a structured creative learning programme for aspiring fashion designers, makers, and textile artists. Designed for students who are passionate about fashion and creativity, the academy provides a supportive environment where technical skills, artistic development, and personal expression are equally valued.
Delivered across four progressive levels, the academy combines practical workshops, creative exploration, and industry-inspired projects to help students develop confidence and independence as designers. Students work closely with experienced tutors who provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship throughout their journey.
Unlike standalone fashion courses, the HvH Fashion Academy offers a long-term pathway that grows with each student. As participants progress, they are encouraged to develop their own creative identity, build a portfolio of work, and explore the areas of fashion that interest them most. The programme is designed to challenge, inspire, and prepare students for future study, creative careers, or personal artistic development.
What will I learn at the Academy?
Throughout the academy, students develop a broad range of fashion design and textile skills, beginning with fundamental techniques and progressing to advanced creative projects.
Students learn hand stitching, machine sewing, garment construction, fabric dyeing, textile processes, fashion illustration, design development, pattern cutting, and professional finishing techniques. Alongside practical skills, participants gain an understanding of colour, fabric selection, composition, and the creative design process.
As confidence grows, students move from tutor-led projects to creating their own garments, accessories, and textile pieces. They learn how to research ideas, develop concepts, solve design challenges, and translate creative visions into finished products.
Students also explore the wider world of fashion through the study of influential designers, fashion brands, historical movements, and contemporary trends. In the final stages of the programme, participants design and produce their own cohesive collection of wearable garments and collaborate with our HvH Photography Academy students to document their work for portfolio presentation.
