We have incredible partnerships working with private schools who support our work with their outreach programmes. We currently support state schools in after school projects with the support of private school funding. This enables us to offer our free courses to support pupils, offering them excellent resources in learning skills in the arts and media.
A 2017 report by London Councils showed that 70% of London schools experienced budget cuts in the previous two years. Decreased school funding has the tendency to hurt arts departments first. This often results in school arts programmes becoming completely non-existent, resulting in dwindling accessibility to arts and opportunities for creative expression.
These worrying trends of underfunded schools have not escaped our local London neighbourhoods, either. We have developed relationships with schools that are in some of the most deprived areas of London such as Tower Hamlets, Camden and Westminster. In fact, they have some of the highest child poverty rates in all of the UK, with Tower Hamlets, Westminster and Camden at 56%, 46% and 43% respectively.
Each of the schools we work with are severely underfunded. We aim to reverse the damage done by underfunding by providing free classes in the arts and media. Our courses help improve self-worth by teaching transferrable skills and encouraging positive socialising. We believe no child should fall through the ‘gap’…
