I first came across HVH ARTS Gallery in 2017. Having my two children with me from Carlton Primary school, we discovered a range of art classes that children could take part in. My children eagerly signed up to join some painting and sketching. Over the last four years my children have loved taking part in an incredible variety of photography, fashion, singing, dancing and art classes. I happily volunteered my time helping with classes. I have supported art classes including a trip to the British Museum, where the pupils had put on a fashion show. I qualified as a Teaching Assistant in 2019 and I love having the opportunity to help in a class with pupils learning something new and loving art.

My children and I found out about HVH Arts during lockdown. I am a single mum of two, a girl and boy. Since the first day they attended the Gallery it feels like “our” place! As a volunteer, I’m so grateful that I get to share my love of art with them and watch their “small world” grow. I’m currently studying to become a TA and have a placement in Year 2 at a Primary School supporting SEN pupils with their learning. I love the idea of Art because it’s subjective… regardless of the medium it opens up the world for children.

HvH Arts is one of those places where you feel the energy the moment you walk in. I was introduced through my best friend Lily and her mum, Debbi, and it didn’t take long before I felt completely at home. I started participating to support the team with their creative projects and social media, but I stayed because of the kids. Whether it’s a dance rehearsal or a photography workshop, the passion and talent they bring is seriously inspiring. Watching them grow in confidence and skill has been amazing. I can’t wait to continue supporting HvH and help share these stories with the wider world.
