HvH Arts inspires a generation of young people by offering a gateway to the arts.
The HvH ARTS Gallery in Queen’s Crescent and our HvH ARTS Media Studio in Gospel Oak are two central locations in Camden for all of our vibrant, exciting workshops.
Every year we create a unique Summer schedule all independently taught by professional tutors who are both experts in their artistic fields and have a passion for working with young people, inspiring them to create their best work and fulfil their potential.

With huge thanks to our funders and sponsors this Summer, the charity was able to grow, we were able to support 91 children every day during the Summer holidays providing hot meals, snacks & drinks to support their physical & mental wellbeing.

COOKING WITH MOTHER with Chef CHRIS at Mother Canteen
Learning to cook recipes from around the world focusing on cuisine from Africa, Asia and South America with an emphasis on home food and flavours. Meals that are specific to different communities and not often seen on a typical restaurant menu.
COOKING IN THE COMMUNITY with local Chef Justine Kantor at Rhyl School Kitchen Classroom
Supporting young people in the kitchen, teaching them how to cook and getting them excited and inspired about food. Learning about good nutrition, what’s in season, planning and preparing meals.
LOVE DANCE with Damien Anyasi, Professional breakdancers Bgirl Nat & Bboy Blinx
An opportunity to dance with professional choreographer Damien from Manifestation Dance company using street dance style moves.
ART BY NATURE with award winning Author / Illustrator Sharon King Chai and NYC Artist Lee Matthews
Giving our young artists passion for experimenting and innovation using unusual materials and references to nature including potatoes, blackberries, onions, feathers and sticks.
ART ON CANVAS with professional artist in residence: Zoe Grace
Creating two canvases during this 3 day workshop using gold and silver leaf, 3d lettering, stencilling and colour combinations.
FASHION DESIGN with artist in residence Astrid Jacoby at Little Hands Design
Upcycling and embellishing denim and fabric to create new looks from old clothes. Teaching sustainability through fashion design.
THE ART OF GRAFFITI with artist in residence Louise Adjei
Teaching the art of graffiti using posca pens and spray cans aimed at our younger children. Learning positive and negative stencilling creating exciting visuals on canvas with the theme of Culture and Music in Camden.
ACTING AND DRAMA WORKSHOP & FILMING SHOW REELS with Film Master Graduates from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
Exploring different techniques including improvisation, voice, and movement. Focusing on building confidence and collaboration.

TEENAGE MUSIC MENTORING PROJECT
Creating opportunities for young people, to gain unique skills making their own E.P, writing lyrics, production & the experience to record a live stream of their music.
PHOTOGRAPHY/MEDIA Project with DEBBI CLARK and JUDE WACK
Tutors: Debbi Clark and Jude Wack have extensive experience in teaching young people the art of photography using the OLYMPUS EPL cameras, shooting at Kentish Town City Farm, learning seasonal change, animal portraiture, wildlife, Planting, vegetation and people in focus.
FASHION PROJECT in partnership with CAMDEN ALIVE – MADE IN CAMDEN with Debbi Clark and Mark Hall.
Supported by guest designers Mark Hemmingway, Melanie Press and Iris Law. Using the theme ‘IDENTITITY’ our young people learn fashion design/ textiles /fabric printing and designing their own creation with charity project ‘Made in Camden’. Working on designs for the huge fashion show at the BRITISH MUSEUM in partnership with CAMDEN ALIVE. Photography Scholars have this unique experience to take film and stills footage, with our other students modelling their fantastic designs in the Fashion Show at The British Museum.
BE AN AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR OF YOUR OWN BOOK CREATE YOUR OWN SONG AND LOGO
With guest Authors, Illustrators and Songwriters, to teach our young artists. This course is designed to give young people an insight to expression in writing and illustration, binding the course together with a narrative created by the individual.

Artist Nina Mae Fowler who has exhibited at National Portrait Gallery, makes a guest appearance to teach techniques in the art of drawing, sketching and watercolours.
FLUID ART WITH THE AMAZING ZOE JOSEPH
Zoe is back to teach our young people to create a canvas learning the technique of Fluid Art. Students make unusual and rare pieces of art that they can take home and be proud of.

Buster Knight works in Fashion and Editorial, a highly regarded Make-Up Artist working his magic on celebrities and models. Collaborating with Debbi Clark for this one-day workshop teaching portrait photography with our young people to show their creativity in this make-up workshop.
STYLE YOUR OWN FASHION SHOOT with editorial/ fashion stylist STEPHEN HAMILTON
This project is a chance to see how the professionals work in the eclectic fashion/editorial world of Fashion. Giving our young people the insight of how they can style and create a look for their own fashion shoot. Creating a mood board and fashion set with the opportunity to create their own fashion cover.
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY with OLYMPUS Ambassador Jay McLoughlin
As an Ambassador for Olympus, Street & Fashion photographer Jay McLoughlin, joined us to teach the art of street photography. Exploring the local community market of Queens Crescent and the surrounding area of Gospel Oak and Kentish Town using cameras sponsored by Olympus EPL8’s using 17mm to 45mm lens.

ILLUSTRATION ‘MAPPING KENTISH TOWN’ WORKSHOP WITH TRISHA KRAUSS
A collaboration to create a mural collage map of Kentish Town. Students select 5 points of interest to use for their illustration, from blue plaque homes, well known people, interesting buildings, historical sites, cultural sites, their favourite shops, their homes, their schools, and of course the site of the HvH ARTS Gallery in Queen’s Crescent.
‘LOVE MY AREA’ PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT WITH DEBBI CLARK
A unique tour around the local area seen through a lens. Exploring portrait and landscape photography, young people learn lasting skills in how to stamp their own creativity on a project all about local pride. Learning technical skills and how to tell a story with an Olympus camera to help them develop their craft.
MUSIC PRODUCTION AND MUSIC VIDEO
Alongside studio industry professionals from Sony Music creating a track and filming a music video with Kubic Music. learning the art of writing, producing, performing, choreography, mixing, filming, directing and editing.
TESS TOMASSINI DANTE ART PROJECT WITH EXHIBITION AT EUSTON GALLERY
A workshop that looks at translating poetry into images. Young artists have the opportunity to learn about Dante Alighieri and make their own responses. Artwork is then selected for an exhibition in Euston
QUEENS CRESCENT STREET ART PROJECT WITH SAM SURE
Continuing with our street art murals along Queens Crescent, our shutters have been a local success story in the neighbourhood! inspired by the shop owners, young people learn the skills of spray painting, mocking up designs and then transferring these designs onto the shutters.
STOP MOTION ANIMATION with Artist Jamie Smith
Using collage, an overhead projector, and a camera our young people set their imaginations free by creating their own story and recording their animation to keep and showcase.
FASHION DESIGN AND PRINTING ‘DECONSTRUCTION’ WITH LOLA TURNER AND IYLA SHAH
A 5-day workshop with Fashion/Print Designer Graduate Lola Turner and Fine Art Painter Iyla Shah. A fun, hands on collaboration to make a banner from repurposed fabrics from old bed sheets to odd football socks. Learning a new form of printing to overlay onto their material.
PORTRAIT PAINTING CLASS WITH ACRYLICS and OILS
Art therapists Sam & Sarah guide our young artists learning portraiture with a variety of paints, including oils and acrylics. Young people can choose to paint each other, or they can bring in a photo to use for inspiration.
DRONES & ROBOTICS CLASS WITH URBAN FLYERS
This exceptionally unique course in drone operating teaches young people the intricacies of coding for flying, instilling new ideas for future careers and possibilities. The exciting and exhilarating course is progressive in its teaching including robot operating, drone photography and synchronised flying. Young people leave with a unique set of skills.
GRAFFITI AND STENCILLING TRIPTYCH WITH LOUISE ADJEI
Louise teaches the art of Graffiti, the tricks of shadows, the concept of this art is more than just a spray can. Artists create their own triptych to reflect the amazing skills learnt on the course
SCULPTURE CLASS – SUSTAINABILITY
A two-day workshop studying recycling and upcycling- showing young people how they can create something beautiful out of domestic plastic waste. This is a unique art class exploring the concept of sustainability and how we can reduce waste to help the environment by making something inspiring
HOW TO STYLE OLD CLOTHES – UPCYCLING WITH PATRICIA JONES
A workshop in fashion/design and styling! Exploring upcycling with young people – you don’t have to throw out all your old clothes and buy new ones- you can repurpose those items you’re sick of, to create something new and fresh!
MAKE-UP AND HAIR TUTORIAL WITH PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST
One of London’s top MUA’s comes to us at HVH ARTS to teach our young people a fantastic workshop in the art of make-up! We will use this opportunity to shoot portraits being taught by DEBBI CLARK with our young people to show their creativity in this make-up workshop.
PORTRAITURE SHOOT + EDIT SESSION WITH DEBBI CLARK
Giving our young people the insight of how they can style and create a look for their own fashion shoot. A BRAVE NEW WORLD – AN EXPLORATION OF VISUAL ARTS DANCE THEATRE with Peter Youngblood Hills and Selina Giles
Joined by actors Selina Giles and Peter Youngblood Hills for an abstract composition piece in performance theatre. Exploring the themes of nature, friendship and what it means to be kind, young people can express themselves through movement and performance. This is a collaborative project with the chance to perform the final piece in front of family and friends at the end of the project.
2 DAY CURATION WORKSHOP
PRE- Production is a skill that helps young people focus, learn the art of curating a show, preparing their work, framing and presenting their art in preparation for the HVH ARTS ‘LOCKDOWN EXODUS’ Exhibition.

During these unprecedented times, just coming out of Lockdown 2020, we didn’t know if we would be able to continue our crucial summer holiday projects. We were so excited to give our young people access to some very exciting projects being delivered safety with government guidelines. This made it possible to continue our legendary summer holiday workshops.

“ISOLATION STORIES” FILM DOCUMENTARY PROJECT with SADIE FROST
A project exploring Isolation with young people interviewing and filming their own family members and peers about what it means to be isolated. With guidance and expertise from filmmaker Sadie Frost and tutor Luke Allen, our young people became Directors, Cinematographers and Writers of their own filming project
ILLUSTRATING AN ALBUM COVER with New York Times illustrator TRICIA KRAUSS
Inspired by their favourite band/artist/singer, our young artists produced illustrations using bold aesthetics for their designs, learning about blending colour, shading and composition. All the artwork was submitted into a competition sponsored by the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Charity judged by our Patron Helen McCrory OBE.
DESIGN YOUR OWN CARNIVAL PUPPET with Julia Evangelista from See Through Theatre
With a explosion of colour and textures to create a large and ostentatious carnival puppet. Our young designers learn about how to mould and cast the structure, balancing colours and textures to create the biggest impact whilst gaining skills working as a team.
DESIGN YOUR OWN MASK AND KIT BAG with Georgie from Little Hands Design
With intensive training in hand and machine sewing making masks and kit bags for going back to school. Learning priceless skills in design and manufacturing, developing ideas into reusable fashion items for everyday wear.

Our Summer Holiday Project 2019 was delivered in Camden and Deptford, giving access to free art workshops to support disadvantaged children and young people.
This year we were awarded the Mayor of London Culture Seeds Award 2019 and the Best Project on the BIG GIVE Fundraising platform with Childhood Trust 2019. This project reached over 325 young people during the 7 weeks of Summer 2019 supporting children and young people the gift of ART and MEDIA free workshops available every day of the week.
2018
We raised funds this year on BIG GIVE with match funding supported by Childhood Trust
Our Summer Holiday Project this year was delivered in Camden at our Pop-Up gallery in Queens Crescent, Camden.
This project reached over 215 young people during the 7 weeks of Summer.
We delivered highly skilled workshops in Oil Painting, Sketching, Sculpture, Photography and music.
We even created a short film documentary ‘Queens Crescent’ and produced two music videos with songs written by our young people.
To celebrate the young people’s achievements, we curated an exciting exhibition at our gallery.
